Dinosaurs, Fast Cars, and Emotional Damage
Universal is where my taste goes for monsters, mayhem, family speeches, theme-park adrenaline, and surprisingly sincere emotion hiding inside the noise. This is my ranking of the Universal-produced films I have watched, based on spectacle,

I don’t know why, but I felt really unmotivated to watch this.

If Dunkirk (2017) wore Greek mythology as its armor, this would be the result.

Feels like Heat with its heist and danger vibes but seen through the lens of Michael Bay.

Feels like Top Gun with Ozark money laundering, then got hired by Narcos and narrated by The Wolf of Wall Street.

Nothing flashy. Nothing gimmicky. Just good old fashioned storytelling by Ridley Scott.

This feels like a raw, flashy rise and fall crime story carried by Al Pacino’s intense presence and a neon soaked Miami atmosphere.

A charming time travel adventure carried by music, character growth, and genuine likability.

I call this Project Almanac. There are a lot of callbacks from the first movie.

Right from the start, I was already impressed with the blocking, continuous shots, and cinematography.

The film uses circular anamorphic lenses, giving it a dreamy and unstable feel.

I like this most when it leans fully into its weird cowboy and sci-fi blend.

Chaotically fun. It is super easy to get swept up by the happy vibes because the Minions are just so funny and adorable.

Fun and competitive movie. The banter between them carries most of the energy.

Drop feels like a tribrid of The Menu x Knives Out, with a dose of Nerve’s thrill aesthetic.

Miami Vice feels like Michael Mann operating at a much larger scale, with more locations, moving parts, and glossy production value than his earlier work.

Surprisingly, the CGI is not off because of the combination of animatronics which are appreciated because the level of realness is high.

Tinry ko panoorin sa 4DX and maganda naman, para ka talagang nasa boat, halos nakaka trigger ng sea sickness 🤢.

Everything feels believable. I honestly could not tell how much was shot on real locations versus sets.

I honestly found this pretty dull, which surprised me because I usually like spy films.

Well, with all due respect to Tom Hanks and Kevin Bacon, who both gave great performances, I didn’t feel the urgency that much as I expected to.

Too politicky for me. Most of the movie is basically about slowly piecing together the political puzzle required to accumulate enough money, influence, and support for…
