Back to the Future 1985
Non spoiler thoughts (summary):
A charming time travel adventure carried by music, character growth, and genuine likability. The orchestral score gives everything a grand sense of importance even within a small town setting, while the performances keep it grounded and relatable. Marty’s energy makes the danger feel personal, and George’s development provides emotional payoff. Clear storytelling and humor make it easy to follow, which explains why it remains a classic and leaves strong anticipation for the sequel.

The score feels like a space opera. Alan Silvestri writes it in a huge heroic orchestral style, almost like the characters are part of a grand adventure across galaxies even if the story is just happening in a small town. Big brass fanfares announce moments of destiny, the strings push urgency during the time travel race, and the main theme gives the feeling that history itself is being rewritten in real time. During the climax, the rhythm of the music basically becomes the ticking clock of the lightning strike. Alan Silvestri is such a legend!
The prosthetics and makeup department also did a good job making the actors look older. When I got to the mother’s house, that is where the comedy really started. Especially the awkward interactions with his mom. Napayuck ako nung hinalikan siya ng mom niya in the past.
Michael J. Fox has a charisma similar to Tom Holland. They both have that energetic sincerity, mabilis magsalita, expressive reactions, and a believable “normal kid thrown into crazy situations” vibe. Instead of feeling like action heroes, they feel approachable and human, which makes the danger feel more real because I worry for them rather than just watching them win.
Story wise, it is easy to follow and the stakes are clearly communicated. The director handled the characters well. Everyone has enough screen time, clear motivations, and character development especially young George McFly. Now I know why it is a classic. I thought it would be boring but I respect it so much.
The ending twist really gives me something to look forward to for the next film. I am excited to watch more from the franchise.
