If you want a safe and functional love story, this is for you. Light, warm, quirky, and genuinely charming. A lot of the comedy comes from Anna’s desperation to stick to her carefully constructed plan while absolutely everything keeps going wrong. The whole journey becomes a series of unfortunate events and ridiculous diversions that keep pulling her farther away from where she thinks she needs to be. I also love the locations. The movie was filmed around Ireland, which explains why the countryside looks so scenic. Makes me want to do a roadtrip there. Those huge green landscapes, rocky coastlines, country roads, and small villages are very much part of the real scenery. It gives the romance this cozy countryside atmosphere that becomes part of the appeal. I also like how this materialistic city girl slowly learns the simpler provincial life through Declan. She begins the movie concerned with plans, possessions, and having everything perfectly arranged, then gradually realizes that happiness might actually be much simpler than that. And that romantic ending with the beautiful sunset is just the cherry on top.
