The Woman in the Yard 2025
The film uses circular anamorphic lenses, giving it a dreamy and unstable feel. Parang laging off balance yung mundo, bagay na bagay sa mental state ng character.
The score is effective in building tension, mystery, and danger. Hindi siya loud, pero constant yung pressure. May Shikamaru vibes yung paggamit ng shadow, parang yung anino mismo ang gumagalaw at may sariling will.
Kadiri yung hallucination sa sugat. It’s disturbing in a very intimate way. You can feel that she’s slowly losing her mind under depression and pressure. Hindi lang takot yung nararamdaman, kundi discomfort.
What makes this unique is that the enemy isn’t darkness, but light. That’s a really smart twist for a horror film. Kudos to Tay for figuring that out. It flips the usual horror language and makes daylight feel unsafe.
The portrayal of suicidal thoughts is handled well. It shows that kind of immeasurable pain where someone convinces themselves that leaving their kids is actually for their own good, because staying might only harm them.
This is a psychological horror through and through. Hindi puro sa jump scares, kundi sa slow collapse ng mind and guilt.
