Drop 2025
Drop feels like a tribrid of The Menu x Knives Out, with a dose of Nerve’s thrill aesthetic. It starts with promise. Stylish. Neon soaked. VFX overlays of text messages floating on screen, and a top shot falling scene reversed like Get Out’s void, but instead of falling into darkness, characters are swallowed by mystery.
But the illusion cracks fast.
The film plants clues everywhere: weird stares, suspicious character behavior, lingering shots on objects that look like they mean something. But none of them pay off. They exist only to mislead, never to reveal. Just red herrings with no reason. You keep waiting for the film to connect its threads, only to realize wala pala. It’s just noise.
The tension is surface level. You’re curious, but never emotionally invested. It’s entertainment, not impact.
Some of the action scenes are downright unbelievable. A character gets shot but still manages to pull someone up with full strength? Another scene practically catches a bullet mid air. It breaks its own realism. Not in a stylized way just in a “wait, what?”
Visually, it tries. Playful angles. Moody lighting. Clean digital overlays. The tech aesthetic works. But beyond that, the storytelling is thin. Characters feel more like chess pieces than people. No deeper psychology.
The mystery structure becomes predictable. Accuse someone. They turn out innocent. Move to the next suspect. Repeat. And the film never explains why certain characters behaved strangely parang trip lang ng script.
Sakto lang. A decent movie night watch when you're not looking for depth. But not something that will stay with you.
