The Death of Robin Hood (2026) review

Another Logan (2017) kind of movie. follows an old, tired, and guilt ridden man who sees himself as nothing more than a monster because of the life he has lived. Like Logan, he longs for an end to his suffering, yet unexpectedly finds himself taking a child under his wing. They also share the idea of legacy, questioning whether the next generation should inherit the same life of violence or be given a chance to become something better. As the title suggests, it feels like I am the one being put to death by the pacing. It is an extremely slow, introspective film that asks for a lot of patience (which never paid off). Visually, it is gorgeous. The atmosphere and landscapes reminded me of The Northman with their rugged beauty and earthy palette.. There's a scene that reminds me of Sam Mendes' lighting in 1917 and Spectre. The whole thing is intentionally and beautifully shot. This is a deeply introspective and retrospective film. It spends more time looking inward than moving forward, reflecting on guilt, mortality, legacy, and whether a lifetime of violence can ever truly be redeemed.
