Groundhog Day 1993
Non spoiler thoughts (summary):
This one hooks me quickly because it starts with a lead character who is clearly selfish, sarcastic, and hard to root for. That makes the premise more interesting for me, because the film is not just asking what I would do if there were no tomorrow, it is also asking what kind of person I become when consequences disappear. The comedy lands because it pushes that idea in ways that feel both absurd and uncomfortably human.
What I enjoy most is how the film slowly expands beyond the gimmick. It starts playful and entertaining, but I can already feel that there is something deeper underneath the repetition. For me, that is what makes it work. It is funny on the surface, but there is also a quiet sadness in the idea of being stuck with myself over and over again until I am forced to change.

Oh I love time loop movies! The film immediately establishes that he is an asshole and very sarcastic from the start. I can already tell he is the kind of person who only thinks about himself.
The whole premise begs the question, what would I do if there is no tomorrow? If I only have one day to live but it keeps repeating, what would I do? The film goes all out with that idea. He gets arrested, hooks up with random girls, eats everything he wants, steals money because there are no consequences. The sequence is hilarious and at the same time very relatable. I feel like any human would do the same given that situation.
I was really laughing out loud during the part where he keeps doing trial and error with Rita. He keeps repeating the same day, adjusting his responses, trying to say the perfect thing, but still failing. That part is both funny and a bit sad. It makes me think, what is the point of immortality if I cannot get the girl? Truly, eternity feels empty if I have no one to share it with.
Then the tone slowly shifts. From fun and chaotic, it becomes depressing when he starts trying different ways to kill himself but nothing works. That part hits differently. It shows how something that feels like freedom at first can become a curse.
In the end, the lesson feels simple but effective. Be kind, help people, and improve myself not just to impress someone, but to become someone worth staying for.
