I watched this during Valentine’s while I had a tremendous headache, so I just wanted something light and easygoing. The rocky relationship at the start felt real. Mahirap talaga pag dalawa ang nagdedesisyon sa relasyon. I could feel that tension immediately. I love how even though the lighting is high key and bright, the DOP still made sure to include a noticeable hair light or highlight. It keeps the characters separated from the background and gives them that polished, glowing look. It feels theatrical but still cinematic. Lily James is so enigmatic in every movie or role she plays. There’s something magnetic about her presence. She carries the younger Donna storyline with so much charm and emotional pull. I also like how the story is woven through two timelines with parallel struggles and growth. It reminds me of how The Godfather Part II structured its narrative, showing two generations side by side. Here, it feels lighter and more sentimental, but the structural similarity is there. Overall, the movie is feel good, with a happy and satisfying ending. I think this is actually best watched during Mother’s Day. It celebrates motherhood, legacy, and love in a warm way. Perfect comfort watch energy.
