Obsession 2025

Tbh, I laughed more than I got spooked. The first hour has strong craft right away. Framing, blocking, and score are the first standouts. I can feel the film trying to create tension through placement, silence, and mood. Lesson of the film: do not date your coworker. Or as the saying goes, don’t shit where you eat. There are also some Get Out (2017) feels in the way the relationship slowly becomes uncomfortable. But the film is too predictable. There were storylines and surprises where me and my friend already guessed what would happen. No lasting impact either. I did not really feel the horror. I think this will be more effective for guys who have dealt with manipulative, hallucinating, control-freak girlfriend energy. Basically, it felt like a codependency story dressed as horror. The actress’ acting is soooo good though, and I think it is the strongest suit of the film. Even when the story became obvious, her performance kept it watchable.
