Much stronger on a second viewing because the film shifts from feeling like a mystery to feeling like an interpretation exercise. Once the ending is known, the tension changes into curiosity about motives and perspective. Instead of asking what is happening, the film becomes about who is right. It plays like a psychological character study disguised as a thriller, with a strangely humorous tone underneath the bleakness.
A confined confrontation between two opposing worldviews where truth is uncertain. As paranoia, persuasion, and survival instincts collide, both characters believe they are protecting humanity in completely different ways. The film gradually reveals that the real conflict is not just physical escape, but deciding which reality to trust.

This film is much better on my second viewing. Now that I already know how the film ends from my first watch, Teddy feels more heroic in trying to save us from the aliens, and the kidnapping and torture suddenly become justifiable. And Teddy makes 100% sense that aliens are very much masters of deception. But at the same time, Michelle is also heroic in her own way because she gives humanity the cure that could save us from destroying ourselves.
During my first watch it felt like a crime thriller. Now that the noise, and doubts are out of the way, the motivations are clearer, it feels more like a character study for each of them.
And if Yorgos intended this as a comedy, it still works as one. It becomes a dark comedy about a bleak commentary that people on Earth are doomed, no chance, no hope to save themselves from the harm they brought upon humankind.

Unang una kong napansin is yung highly saturated colors. Parang Whiplash, Legend of Ochi, Apocalypse Now, Limitless level. Tapos sobrang sharpened yung image, parang naka HDR na sagad na sagad. Kita lahat ng pores. May mataas na headroom sa framing, plus haunting sound design. Very unsettling. Para akong hinihypnotize. Umabot sa point na kailangan kong buksan yung ilaw kasi parang nahihilo ako.
I really like the lighting. Very deliberate yung separation ng key light, shadows, and hair light. Kitang kita yung tatlong layers, kaya ang linaw ng subject sa frame.
Despite the discomfort, I like how clean and smooth the camera movements are. Mostly dolly push ins and push outs. Hindi shaky. Controlled. Parang calm observer.
The score feels like grand opera, but used in a fantasy sense. Hindi siya subtle. Grand, dramatic, parang may mythic weight kahit absurd yung nangyayari. Parang ginagamit yung music to make nonsense feel important, almost divine or prophetic. That contrast makes it more disturbing. And it will all make sense sa dulo.
The premise itself is absurd. At first, akala ko belief in fake news and conspiracies taken to the extreme. Jesse plays it perfectly. He feels sick in the head, unhinged. Emma contrasts him well. Calm, diplomatic, trying to ground things using psychology and positive reinforcement. Parang tinatry niyang i manage a narcissist by feeding the ego just enough.
Jesse is the perfect casting for this. Ever since Like Mike, may pagka lunatic aura na talaga siya. Dito, full blown na.
As the story evolves, nagiging malinaw na revenge pala yung pinanggagalingan ng lahat. Hindi lang delusion.
The deaths are unpredictable. Hindi mo alam kung sino mawawala next.
May mga moments na natatawa ako habang sinasabi, “What the fuck, ano ba talaga to?” Hindi mo alam kung totoo ba yung sinasabi nila or kung nakikiride lang sila sa kabaliwan ni Jesse.
Then the twist hits. Turns out, Jesse wasn’t crazy at all?
Yung scene na binutas yung firmament sobrang nakakatawa. Alam mong every flat earther would celebrate that moment.
The whole thing is a wild experience. Atlantis, evolution, Noah’s Ark, dinosaurs. Lahat thrown to make a word salad, tapos biglang nagiging “totoo” dahil sinabi ng alien. Para siyang conspiracy theorist dream come true.
Dark humor hanggang dulo. First time makaexperience ng ganitong cinematic feeling. Very unique
