Non spoiler thoughts (summary): I went in expecting something seductive and wild, but what I experienced was more of a psychological ego collapse than an erotic story. The film uses desire as bait, then slowly turns it into insecurity and paranoia. Instead of excitement, I mostly felt unease, like watching a man spiral after realizing he isn’t as in control as he believes. ⚠️ Spoilers ahead. From here on, plot details are discussed. Read on if you’ve seen the film. If not, save this post and come back after. ⚠️ Nicole Kidman here is honestly too hot to handle and the film clearly knows it. The way she is presented feels intentional because the whole movie revolves around desire, insecurity, and temptation. Watching Tom Cruise’s character move through the night, I kept feeling how dangerous it must be to live in that level of privilege and attraction where opportunities and temptations constantly appear around every corner. The score really carries the experience. It begins during the ritual with something resembling a Gregorian chant that feels sacred but also unsettling, then slowly transforms into a mysterious erotic atmosphere, and later into something colder and threatening. The music almost guides my emotions scene by scene, shifting the film from curiosity to tension to quiet danger. The women in the secret gathering look perfect, like they were deliberately chosen to represent hand picked models / adult actresses. It just feels like one mistake in a single night led to another. This shows the danger of making your profession, especially one that requires a license, your entire identity, because it creates a constant sense of superiority or of always being needed. I don’t know, maybe just don’t be too self assured? I couldn’t really sympathize with the characters. I was hoping for a full blown horny movie but instead got a broken ego smashed wide open by his wife’s crazy fantasy. Moral of the story: don’t smoke weed and confess your fantasies to your spouse.
