The Night Comes for Us 2018

This looks like what would happen if Tarantino directed The Raid. The violence is completely unapologetic. So gruesome and bloody that even I flinched. It started to get really interesting in the butcher shop. My biggest issue is that the violence eventually becomes so extreme that it starts working against the realism. There are scenes where it stops being believable because some attacks should have already killed them, but somehow they keep going. I don’t feel any exhaustion from them either. Eventually they start feeling less like humans and more like video game characters with ridiculous health bars (especially the end part). The third act battle between The Operator and Elena visually reminds me of Timo Tjahjanto’s third act final battle in Nobody 2 (2025), which I mentioned in my previous review looked like a vivid, colorful music video despite all the violence. For me, Zack Lee’s Bobby gives the best performance here with his crazy, batshit intensity. In contrast, Joe Taslim cannot carry this film alone. Nevertheless, if you want a bloody affair, want to get overstimulated, and want nice cinematography and cool camera work with the DNA of The Raid (2011), watch this.
