The Devil Is Busy 2024

Watching this was honestly challenging for me. I think it is because the subject directly touches my beliefs about the value of life. I do not really want to elaborate too deeply because I do not think Letterboxd is the proper venue for that kind of discussion. But for what it is worth, I can still understand, even if only partially, the struggles faced by people in the health care industry and how society and politics limit women's choices. At the same time, I also felt uncomfortable with the militant and aggressive approach of preaching Jesus in front of the clinic. I understand what they are trying to do, but the method can come across as very judgmental. I feel like there could be more compassionate and thoughtful ways to persuade someone to reconsider their decision. What the documentary shows well is that there are two very different interpretations of love and forgiveness under the same faith. Both sides believe they are acting out of care and conviction, yet they approach it in completely opposite ways. Overall, it is still a well made documentary. Even if the topic is difficult and uncomfortable for me, the film does a good job presenting the tension between those perspectives.
