Legion 2010

The film starts with nice cinematic landscape photography and detailed close up shots. It immediately sets a serious tone. Angas ni Paul Bettany dito. He has that calm but threatening presence that fits the role well. The father and son pep talk scene works. Simple, grounded, and gives emotional context before everything goes to chaos. The diner action sequence is thrilling. I like the color grading here. Yellowish brownish cinema colors that were very common during that era. It gives the film a dusty, apocalyptic feel. The score is also strong, both during action and suspense. It keeps the tension consistent without overpowering the scenes. The goal of the film is clear. It’s about surviving the wrath of God who has lost faith in humanity. Here, God and the angels are portrayed as the real horror of the world, not demons. That inversion is interesting. Visually, the movie looks like a heavily stylized late 2000s to early 2010s Hollywood film. This was the era of high contrast color grading, heavy yellows and browns, strong teal shadows, bloom highlights, and aggressive digital sharpening. Movies like Transformers, Iron Man 2, Man of Steel, Percy Jackson, I Am Number Four, and Noah all shared that look. Cinematography during this time leaned toward spectacle over subtlety, with bold lighting, dramatic skies, and very polished CGI heavy frames. Legion fits perfectly into that visual language. The CGI here is also peak for its time. It holds up better than expected, especially in creature work and large scale destruction. Where it loses me is the resolution. So the ending implies that Michael restores God’s faith and mercy toward humanity, and that defiance is better than obedience, like Gabriel choosing to follow orders blindly. That raises big theological questions. Does that mean God here is not all loving, all powerful, or all knowing? The ending feels forced and not fully thought through. It presents big ideas but doesn’t explore them deeply enough. Nakulangan ako sa lalim. It could have been more thought provoking, especially given how bold the premise is. Siguro intended magkaron ng part 2 but was scrapped kaya parang bitin. Strong visuals, solid action, interesting concept. But it stops short of saying something truly meaningful by the end.
