In the Hand of Dante 2025

My main issue is that the movie is extremely poetic and metaphorically dense. It asks you to stay mentally locked in because the meaning is not always delivered directly. This is definitely not something I would recommend watching casually or when you’re tired. You need to be in the right mindset for it, otherwise the movie can easily lose you. Nevertheless, I love the cinematography and costume design. The period elements give the film this rich, almost painterly quality. Julian Schnabel learned his lesson from At Eternity’s Gate (2018). I can actually watch this properly now. I had to stop watching At Eternity’s Gate before because the handheld shots were making me nauseous. Oscar Isaac, Gerard Butler, and John Malkovich are good actors. No doubt about their performances. Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa, though, feel like they are just playing themselves.
