PTA’s directorial debut, and kitang kita agad yung style niya. Nandun na yung strong musical score, dry comedy, long continuous shots, high energy moments, smart lens choices, and pagiging very character driven. There’s a looping score that sounds like the opening of Top Gun with the bells. It uses repetitive melodic phrases with chime like tones that keep circling back, almost hypnotic. It gives a sense of calm control on the surface, but underneath may tension. Parang steady rhythm that mirrors Sydney’s quiet authority and patience. The repetition also reinforces the idea of routine, discipline, and inevitability. Sydney has this calm, nonchalant authority. Mentor slash father figure energy. May aura siya ng someone na may alam, may experience, at may tinatagong history. All this time, nagtataka ako bakit ang bait niya kay John. Parang sobra yung care at guidance niya, almost unconditional. Then when the truth is revealed, everything clicks. Suddenly, his kindness doesn’t feel random anymore. It feels intentional, and deeply personal. The revenge on Jimmy, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is very satisfying. Walang over the top theatrics. You don’t mess with Sydney!
