The story feels like about greed, like as if living off someone else’s sorrow. The pearls themselves are not really the point. What matters is the suffering behind them. In a strange way it almost feels like a marketing lesson. It reminds me that people are often drawn not to the object itself, but to the story attached to it. The emotion behind something can make it valuable. It is all about the story, never just the object.
