I never really felt the tension or urgency of the mission, which is a huge problem for a disaster movie like this. I also could not bring myself to care much about the characters, and neither the acting nor the visuals did enough to pull me in. Aaron Eckhart was great in The Dark Knight, but here, but here he sucks. I am quite distracted by Hilary Swank. She looks like a white Rosario Dawson with the hair of Anakin Skywalker in Revenge of the Sith. The only consistently enjoyable thing for me is Stanley Tucci. He brings the most personality to the movie. The San Francisco bridge destruction is actually pretty good, though. The miniature work gives the sequence a satisfying sense of physical destruction that the rest of the movie often lacks. For what it’s worth, I think the premise is cool. It’s the execution’s fault that it sucks.
