Paprika 2006

I watched this because of the fact that it was one of Christopher Nolan’s inspirations for Inception (2010). But to me weirder and more chaotic, especially without that architectural and rule-based side of dreams that made Inception easier for me to follow. I also get overly stimulated by the anime DNA, with too many unique bizarre character designs and such a vast, colorful palette. Yeah, it is deeper and more complex, but I still prefer the more straightforward, mind-bending cinematic experience of Inception. Nolan gives me enough structure and rules to hold onto while still fucking with my head, whereas Paprika feels like it just lets the subconscious completely run wild.
