No Tears in Hell (2025) review

The film has strong indie Netflix vibes. The kind of production that feels raw and character driven rather than polished in a big studio blockbuster. The camera work is intimate, the locations feel limited and grounded, and the storytelling leans heavily on tension and atmosphere. It reminds me of those darker Netflix thrillers that focus more on disturbing psychology and uncomfortable situations. The acting is good overall, but I can still feel that many of them are not fully seasoned yet. There are moments where the delivery feels slightly uneven, though the effort is clearly there. Still, the different departments do a solid job supporting the film. The direction, sound, and visual work help maintain the tension. Luke Baines stood out to me because he oddly feels like a mix of Jack Quaid and Bill Skarsgård. He carries that same natural charm Jack Quaid has, where he can appear approachable and almost friendly. But at the same time there is a darkness underneath that reminds me of Bill Skarsgård. The way his expressions shift from calm to unsettling gives him that slightly dangerous energy. The violence is very effective. I reacted strongly to it. Some of the moments are really vile in a way that makes the scenes hard to watch. The tone of the film feels like a strange blend of Saw and Dahmer. It has the brutality and cruel setups that remind me of Saw, while the psychological discomfort and focus on disturbing human behavior feel closer to Dahmer. That mix creates a very dark atmosphere that stays with me after the film ends.
