Kokuho 2025
So much Japanese culture packed into one film. The string and percussion music, the dance, the costumes, the stage design, the makeup. Every frame feels deeply rooted in tradition.
I was not fully engaged with the story itself. Mas na hook ako sa craft. The lighting and grading are really nice, especially how the stage glows against darker surroundings. There is something about watching the preparation, the rituals behind the performance, the discipline it takes to perfect every gesture.
It is just so weird for me seeing guys change their pitch just to sound like women. I cannot help but think about how they are a group of men deciding how a woman should act, speak, and move. But at the same time, I understand that this is the culture. Women are banned from performing in kabuki, so this tradition was built around that limitation.
Overall, I appreciated this more as a cultural experience than an emotional one. I admired the precision, the artistry, and the dedication. Even if the narrative did not fully pull me in, the craftsmanship alone makes it worth watching.
