Thailand looks awfully familiar, almost the same as the Philippines, especially Pasay where I grew up from ages 0 to 5. The setting immediately felt close to home. Nakakatawa yung sponge bath scene nilang mag lola, sobrang natural and real, parang eksena lang sa totoong buhay. I got teary eyed during the temple scene where M tells his grandma that his son doesn’t wish for her anymore. Then the grandma tells him that her son already has a family and that he uses his wishes first for his own family. That hit hard. I felt guilty because I don’t think much of my Nanay anymore ever since I had my own family. That scene quietly hurts in a very real way. Nainis ako sa part na nagalit si M dahil hindi sa kanya napunta yung bahay, even if siya yung nag alaga sa lola niya. All this time, parang reward lang pala yung motivation niya. I thought the bonding and care became genuine, but it felt like he wasn’t really that different from his rich uncle after all. Then he goes to the nursing home to fetch his lola, and for me that was the cue that he no longer wanted anything from her. Gusto na lang talaga niyang makasama siya. And then the twist. All this time, she had been saving up for her grandson. That’s what lolas are. They truly love their grandchildren and make them number one.
