Doctor Sleep (2019) review

Hot take: this is better than The Shining. Honestly, I revisited this just because of Rebecca Ferguson, but I ended up getting much more than I bargained for. I don’t know why I got bored the first time. But now that I gave it another chance, this is much more interesting, even less than five minutes in. The atmosphere and intrigue are already strong! The Shine abilities are great! I love the scene where Abra and Rose first have their encounter. Abra also feels like she is doing some Jedi mind trick, like Luke Skywalker in The Last Jedi (2017), when she faces Rose’s community members. The score is really haunting! It constantly keeps this sense of dread underneath the story even when nothing horrifying is happening yet. And it is so rad that they recreated the sets from The Shining (1980) too! Watched on HBO Max.
