A funny LEGO sequel with a surprisingly personal lesson. Still has a lot of charm and funny lines. Lots of catchy songs too! For a family animation, I like how it keeps that playful and ridiculous LEGO energy without forgetting to give the story some heart. Didn’t expect the twist, though. Hidden really well in plain sight. Looking back, the clues were already there, but they were disguised well enough that I never really questioned them until everything clicked. I also like how the conflict feels bigger and more dramatic through the characters’ perspective, even though underneath all of it is something very human and relatable. Nice lesson. It’s easier to harden your heart, but opening up your heart is the hardest. Sometimes becoming tougher and emotionally distant feels safer because I don’t give anyone the opportunity to hurt me. That really speaks to reality because I find it hard to open up my heart to anyone. So for a LEGO movie to unexpectedly hit me with that thought was surprisingly effective. Verdict: Near Absolute Watched on Netflix.
