The film starts light and funny. Yung humor actually works. Hindi pilit. Ang daming funny moments dito na talagang natawa ako, lalo na yung rap song scene. Kahit bingi yung tatay, ramdam daw niya yung vibration sa pwet niya. Yung doctor scene na sinabi nilang no sex for two weeks, solid. The herpes prank, the “du-et” joke, pati yung discussion nilang mag-pamilya reminding her parents not to have sex as said by the doctor, and Ruby’s father telling Miles to wear a condom. Ngayon lang ulit ako natawa sa jokes sa movie na hindi pilit.
Ganda rin ng boses nila. May kilig yung Troy Bolton and Gabriela vibes nila. Very warm and soft yung scenes nila together. Parang high school talaga.
Honestly, you need to watch this on Apple TV kasi kung walang matinong subtitles, mahirap. Ang dami kasing ASL scenes, and kailangan mo talagang maintindihan kung anong sinasabi nila.
Pagdating sa kalagitnaan, biglang naging mabigat. Ang sakit panoorin na Ruby is forced to carry responsibilities na hindi naman niya pinili. Torn siya between serving her family and chasing her passion. Nakakapagod yung idea na siya yung tanging connection ng pamilya to the world, pero siya rin yung pinakatalented na gustong lumipad.
Most of the best emotional beats are in silence. Napaiyak ako sa scene when the film muted the performance just so we can peer into their situation. You instantly feel how disconnected the family is from her world. It's heartbreaking to see them na they cannot relate to the audience reacting to how awesome Ruby’s voice is. Hindi nila marinig how great Ruby is.
The father and daughter moment was so sweet yet sad. Yung tatay niya, trying to “listen” to her voice through the vibrations on her neck. I can feel his pain, not having the ability to hear his own child and how much he wants to experience her singing. He’s doing what he can with what he has. Sweet pero ang sakit.
The audition and ending scenes kumurot talaga sa puso ko, and it is a really beautiful film. Nothing flash, just straightforward visuals that match the story perfectly.
