First few minutes pa lang, pinakita na agad ni Leonardo yung terrified look niya. Ramdam mo na agad yung intensity ng acting nya. Less than ten minutes in, the stakes are already high. Pero pagdating sa White House, it was not matched with the utmost urgency. Parang another day in the office lang yung briefing, which really dilutes the gravity of the situation. The film nails meme culture. Yung moment na may taong nag lost ng cool while telling the truth, tapos imbes na seryosohin, ginawang content at traffic ng media. Truth doesn’t matter as much as engagement. Politicizing tragedy is another big hit. Spectacle, bravado speeches, optics over substance. Peter Isherwell is extremely annoying with his corporate greed and fake smile. Perfect representation ng tech bro savior complex. The line “I’m grateful we tried” sums up the ending for me. Hindi siya horror. It ends with warmth. Acceptance. Peace. They did what they could. Nakakalungkot, nakakainis, at nakakagalit na film. At the same time, sobrang accurate na sumasalamin sa reality ng political landscape ngayon. The government spins the story to push their own selfish narrative so people won’t seek the truth, won’t think critically, won’t do their own due diligence, and will just follow whatever they’re told. This film shows us how helpless we are against a corrupt government and corporate greed. Hindi dahil walang solusyon, kundi dahil walang gustong gumawa ng solusyon to keep us all safe.
