This is how it feels trying to be creative with agentic AI stuff and making it do things it is programmed not to do. The motion graphics and CGI are fucking great. Well, what can you expect from the director who made District 9 (2009)? What an absolutely great filmmaker! I love how Neill Blomkamp can make futuristic technology exist inside this dirty, grounded, lived-in world “Chappie is real!” That line hit me hard when he was being attacked. By that point, I already saw him less as a machine and more as someone learning how the world works, so watching people treat him like disposable hardware actually hurt. Great character development for the characters. This movie also deals with a great deal of mystery about how consciousness really works. Where does programming end and actual awareness begin? And if consciousness can somehow exist outside the biological brain, what exactly makes someone alive? Things like this are not far fetched anymore. It’s only a matter of time. With how quickly AI and robotics are progressing, the basic idea of having something like Chappie does not feel as purely sci-fi to me anymore. I want my own Chappie when the time comes! Such a badass and fun movie. Verdict: Interesting Watched on Netflix.
