Devotion 2022

Nice aerial cinematography. Hindi siya Top Gun level, pero good enough and clear yung intention nila. Color grading looks like gold and blue, parang warm highlights with cool undertones. The second act looks noticeably CGI. Medyo halata yung compositing in some scenes, parang may disconnect sa real world lighting and physics. Medyo too wallowing on the Black guy struggles. Gets ko yung hugot niya, pero parang sobrang inemphasize to the point na nawawala yung ibang dimensions ng story. I couldn’t connect too much emotionally dahil medyo predictable yung beats. Mas tangible yung third act. Wise decision talaga to focus the budget on the climax. Dun lumabas yung craftsmanship. Yung seamless wide shot to close up habang bumababa siya to rescue Jesse (Jonathan Majors), ang ganda. Mukhang one long continuous shot: smooth, hindi distracting. Yun yung highlight ng film for me. And that shot na grounded si Tom (Glen Powell) habang lumilipad yung squadron niya, he looks alone and wingless. Overall, a decent film with a strong final act, pero I didn’t fully connect with the story.
