The Sound of Music 1965

The melodies of the songs feel like old Disney animation music for me. They have that simple, memorable, almost storybook quality where each song carries emotion and narrative at the same time. Full of heart, guiding the story forward while staying catchy and warm. When the kids finally appeared, I already got the impression that this would be a warm and happy film. I especially love the Do Re Mi sequence in the open field. That majestic backdrop combined with the playful teaching of music feels so liberating. It feels rebellious like breaking free from strict rules through music. The lighting is also great. Even with the high key lighting that makes everything bright and inviting, it still maintains strong shadows to give depth to the image. Then when it shifts to low key lighting, especially in silhouette scene, it becomes more dramatic and visually striking. The sets are incredible too. Everything feels grand and carefully designed, adding to the timeless charm of the film.
