All mystery, no shock. But I like to think of this more as a family drama with an alien invasion backdrop. Viewed that way, there are actually a fair share of good things to talk about. What I like most is how the chain of events surrounding Mel Gibson’s character does not feel like coincidence by the end. The invasion is really just the pressure that forces the family to confront grief, faith, fear, and the possibility that even the worst moments in life can eventually reveal some kind of purpose.
