Life After You 2026

As an advertising agency owner, I work closely with freelancers, so I am familiar with their dilemma. Shooting days can consume an entire day, while all the preparation, meetings, logistics, and planning behind those shoots take even more time. That kind of schedule can easily eat into family time, rest, and even something as basic as taking care of your own health. That is why Joey’s character feels very familiar to me. On a lighter note, I laughed at how stereotypically accurate it feels that an assistant director is walking around with a fanny pack and a vape. Of course she has both. Maricel Soriano’s character introduction is also surprisingly funny. She reminds me of that familiar older Filipino relative who is deeply religious but will still believe in hilot and other traditional practices. But underneath all those quirks, there is a lot of emotion buried inside her character. She is not there simply for comic relief. The main cast has strong character motivations. I think their characters are well fleshed out. They also gave solid performances, especially Maricel Soriano. Though the film did not peak at the emotional catharsis I was expecting, I still appreciate its emotional beats, especially the theme of unconditional love within a complicated, imperfect, and broken Filipino family.
