Heart of the Beast 2026

This is already the second film I’ve watched this year centered on a dog and the emotional effect it has on its owner, next to Gohan. I like that the dog is not simply there as a companion. Its presence becomes part of what shapes the owner’s emotional journey. The cinematography and landscapes are beautiful. Visually, it reminded me of The Death of Robin Hood and The Dog Stars, films that are technically impressive and filled with gorgeous scenery, but for me, emotionally lacking. Brad Pitt’s physical survival performance also reminds me of Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant (2015).
