Boogie Nights 1997

Sa una pa lang napaindak na agad ako dahil sa opening music na katunog ng TikTok song na Lil Boo Thang. Then boom, long continuous shot agad from PTA. Controlled chaos. Ang daming familiar faces agad na pinapasok niya sa frame. Nakakatawa yung binebentang sound system na TK421 daw. Feels like a direct callback to Star Wars. Before 30 minutes, ramdam ko na agad na this film is hot and funny. Nandun yung PTA humor. This is a film about a film, about an industry, and about people inside it. Mark Wahlberg surprised me here. He has intensity while still having that matinee idol face. Ngayon ko lang nakita yung ganitong klase ng acting niya. It’s also refreshing to see Philip Seymour Hoffman doing comedy. Ang awkward niya pero sobrang effective. Amber (Jullianne Moore) is so seductive, commanding kahit tahimik lang. Parang Guardians of the Galaxy din ito in a way, ang daming memorable songs. Music really carries the energy of the film. Yung filming scene mismo is something I haven’t watched and felt in a film before. Ang unique ng vibe. Love the wardrobe, hair dressing, and production design ng 70s and 80s. Sobrang alive ng world. Sabi na pipitik anytime si Little Bill eh. Ramdam mo na yung tension sa kanya kahit joke joke lang sa umpisa. I’m also happy that Reed stuck with Eddie even when he’s been fired by Jack. May loyalty pa rin despite everything. As time goes by, the film gets serious. Tinouch na niya yung ugly side ng porn business, lalo na drugs and other repercussions. Yung stigma na dala ng actors even outside the industry, whether it’s loan sa new business venture or custody ng anak. Even the musical score became heavy and dark, with long continuous tones that reminded me of There Will Be Blood or One Battle After Another. Nakakakaba yung scene na nagbenta sila ng coke. Hindi ko alam kung safe ba sila or hindi. Pure mayhem. Parang biglang naging Tarantino film yung tension at chaos. Highly entertaining. Hindi ko namalayan yung oras habang pinapanood ko. Yung last few scenes are warm, kasi parang family pa rin sila despite everything. Even si Little Bill may painting pa na nakahang in memory of him.
