I had to recommend this to my wife, so we watched it together again. The heaviness does not fall short on the second watch. The sadness, fear, emptiness, and anger are still there. He made the calls, relayed the information, respected the process. But systems do not guarantee humanity. Bureaucracy does not guarantee safety. That helplessness is FRUSTRATING. It makes the tragedy feel even more unfair. What I also noticed on the second watch is Hind’s brilliance. Even when faced with imminent danger, she was still thinking of solutions. She was negotiating. She was asking if there was another way for Omar and Rana to reach her if not by ambulance. That level of awareness and presence of mind, even as a child, earned another layer of respect and admiration from me. She was not just a victim. She was fighting in the only way she could, through words, through logic, through hope. It just reminds me again how cruel reality can be. War still sucks. And this story still breaks me.
