The Perfect Storm 2000
Well, I respect all the practical effects. I’m all for the physicality of filmmaking, but I still couldn’t fully immerse myself in it. Almost every frame feels fake to me, like it was shot inside a studio instead of actually making me feel like I’m out there with them in the middle of the ocean.
And because I never completely bought into the danger, the emotional ending didn’t hit me as hard as it probably should have. The tragedy is there, but I felt detached from it.
The cast is great, though. For me, Diane Lane is the highlight. She brings a lot of emotional weight to the people waiting back home, and her performance gave me more to hold onto than the violent ocean itself.
