The Mule 2018

Another incredibly clean direction by Clint Eastwood. Everything flows so smoothly and naturally that nothing feels overdirected or unnecessarily flashy. He simply lets the story, performances, and situations do the work. What impresses me even more is how modern the film feels. There were moments when I completely forgot that the man behind the camera was already 88 years old when he directed this. There is no sense that he is struggling to keep up with contemporary filmmaking. If anything, the simplicity and confidence make it feel even more effortless. What a legend!
