Behind the superstar is someone intensely human. I feel like this documentary made me know her deeply. She’s so confident, passionate, rooted in family, emotional, really knows what she wants, has great attention to detail, can be a motivational speaker, and is effortlessly charming and beautiful inside and out. One moment she is completely in command of her work, then the next she is vulnerable, emotional, and dealing with the same personal shit anyone else deals with. Her attention to detail stood out to me too. Whether she is recording, rehearsing, discussing creative decisions, or preparing for a performance, I can tell she really knows what she wants. There is a level of professionalism and passion there that I really respect. I also love seeing how important family still is to her despite the scale of her career. Fame can make someone feel almost untouchable, but the family moments bring her back down to earth. Some of the things she says about ambition, work, pain, and continuing to push forward genuinely sound like they could come from a motivational speaker. I already loved Lady Gaga in A Star Is Born (2018), but this made me appreciate the actual person behind the performances even more. Watched on Netflix.
